To Nap Nanny or To Not

My pediatrician recommended we get a Nap Nanny to help with Lincoln's reflux. I was all set till I saw there had been a recall. I am fine with the safety of the new models (I think) but I don't like that it needs to sit on the floor. Try as I might to keep a tidy room, things have fallen to the wayside with little sleep and even less time for chores. Plus, we have pets. I don't typically allow my dogs in our room, and when I do they stay in one spot, but still...It's one thing to encourage his immunity to allergies with exposure to pet dander and it is another to have him sleeping mere inches from it, ya know?

So, if you had a Nap Nanny did it work out for you? I am desperate with this reflux situation. I thought it was getting better but now it is back to being pretty bad. We are trying a new medicine but I'm not keen to pump my infant full of drugs and I want a natural remedy. Even with burping him for twenty minutes and keeping him upright, he almost always vomits in his bed at night. Poor baby! And while I am at it, anybody know where to get the good burp cloths? Ya know, the super thick, old-school ones? We do A LOT of barf remediation up in here!

  1. Hm, I'm not even sure what a nap nanny is. Guess I'll go look it up. And I just saw an article about a baby who got killed by the family dog, while the adults were all sitting right there. Super friendly, kid-friendly dog who sniffed the baby, then snapped & attacked too quickly for anyone to react. So even though I'm sure your pets are trustworthy, I would still not leave the baby where the pets have easy access until the dogs have had months and months to adjust. You just never know.

We found that the burp cloths that worked best for us were to just buy the old fashioned gerber pre-fold cloth diapers at Target or Walmart. I like to buy a fleece type material (they sell squares at Joann's) and sew it down the middle panel to make it look pretty. I've been giving them as gifts to friends and they are the ones that everyone says they use the most cause they hold the most spit up and they look pretty!

  2. Liz, Those are the burp cloths I have been searching for to no avail. My Walmart stinks in terms of selection. I will check out Target!

  3. Order chinese prefolds online (unless you have a cloth diaper store nearby). www.cottonbabies.com is great. The Gerber prefolds don't absorb half as much as the chinese ones do (I have both). Be sure to wash/dry them 3-4 times on HIGH heat before using, and they will fluff right up and be super absorbent. They have been a life saver when it comes to my super spit-up baby!

  4. Hm, I've gotten them at both Target & Walmart before, but with all the people cloth diapering, they should be all over the place. If you can't find them at Target, let me know & I'll try to find them online for you. I'm in the midst of planning out cloth diapering for this new little one, so I'm finding some great resources.
